How to make a red, white, and blue layered drink
Ingredients needed:
- ice
- 1 can of Cherry 7-Up
- 1 oz of Grenadine
- 1/4 cup of Pina colada mix
- 1 cup of Blueberry Kool-Aid (you can also use blue Gatorade or Blue Hawaiian juice)
- Cherries for a garnish
Directions for your Captain America Kids Drink:
- Fill 1 large glass with ice.
- Pour the Cherry 7-UP with Grenadine 1/3 of the way full. ( Grenadine gives it the bright red color )
- Now add the Pina colada mix 1/3 of the glass. ( you are layering this )
- Top off with the Blueberry Kool-Aid. (or the blue drink of your choice)
- Garnish with a cherry and use a Star and Stripes straw found at any craft store. (the straw is optional)
How to make your layered red, white and blue drink:
Note: To successfully layer this drink you will need a spoon.
- First, fill your glass of choice up with ice.
- Next, fill about 1/3 of the cup with cherry soda and grenadine.
- Now, slightly angle your spoon down into the glass with the backside facing up. Slowly pour in the piña colada mix over the backside of the spoon and fill the glass about 1/3 of the way up.
- Using the same technique, slowly pour the blue Gatorade over the back of the spoon to finish off the layers.
- Garnish with a maraschino cherry and festive straw.
How does the drink stay in different layers of color?
The ice is key to keeping the red and the white layers from combining. You will also angle your glass to help pour in nice and slow so the pina colada layer and blue layer do not run together.
It is really fun to create a fun layered drink.
What can I use instead of Kool-Aid for this layered drink?
Blue Gatorade is a great swap if you want. You can even use a zero sugar one if you want to reduce the sugar content in the layered 4th of July drink.
Do you mix layers when you go to drink?
You can stir the drink right before you go to sip to create a mixed drink or drink it down with each layer. We like to stir it up right before we drink.
The layers make a fun look of a drink, but for the best flavor, I recommend mixing the layers so you get things incorporated.

Would this drink be good for a birthday party?
This is the perfect drink for a party. If you don't want to whip up a classic party punch then go right ahead and make up these drinks.
Just assemble them and let all the guests grab and sip on this Captain America drink.
Where to buy paper straws?
You can find these paper straws at craft stores, Dollar Tree, Walmart, and more. You will find that there are tons of colors and designs.
Or if you don't live near a store that carries them shop online at Amazon. They are a great way to dress up a drink in seconds.
